hard too believe what it looked like two days ago now!

Tank looks a lot better, I'm sorry about the loss of your Festae and hope what I suggested was helpful.

Very helpful! Thanks to everybody. I'm glad to be part of such a helpful community, especially when things go bad. Much appreciated all;)

eh? i havent said big water changes are a problem? maybe the punctuation is making me read that wrong? i always do 50-60% change a week...
glad to hear of improvements. now questioning if I incorrectly recalled your input on past threads.? (my week has been hellacious, & I've been up nights)
BUT your water tub still makes me highly concerned for you & your fish :-/
Good luck.

i will look further into the tub, maybe tie the ball up and clean it right out... esp with our new baby here now.

definitely a good reason to get this cold water setup on the drip system sorted before the weekend!-)

must be getting me muddled with someone else bud.

Here in the US it is recommended that we drain water from the bottom of our hot water heaters at "least" once per year (I try to drain mine 2 or more times per year), because calcium and other minerals precipitate to the bottom of the tank. The sludge that comes out if not done yearly can be a viscous, grey to black color and not good for human, or fish consumption.
But in the US, these water heaters are under pressure, so even if not done yearly the sludge is never as bad as the yours. This mineral build up could be host to all your problems.
My girlfriend, also a Brit says your attic water heaters are gravity fed, and under only slight pressure, so I would imagine sludge is more easily built up and sounds like more frequent cleanings are needed. The new line you added may have upset the balance enough to stir up the rubbish that caused your bloom, and or, effected your bio filtration.

Looking good justarn! I love MFK too! I never knew about this forum until late last year. I have learned so much from reading stories and comments from other members and especially the moderators. It is very reassuring to know that there are people out there you can turn to when you need advice.
