help wih channa bleheri - jumped out

So, I received my trio of channa bleheri 3 days ago. Last night I fed them before I went to bed, but, forgot the lid open. One of the three decided to discover my house and jumped out. this happened between 2.30am and 11am, when I was sleeping. When I found it this morning I immediatly put it back in the aquarium, in a breeder so it doesn't get harrased by the puffers I have them with. It's been kind of swimming around and is breathing, but is in a bad condition.

Is there anything else I can do to help it get better?
 
lots of aeration, pristine water quality, lights out. Basically eliminate any factors which can stress the fish.channa experts can chime in about if salt would help.

Hi,

sad that this error is so often made, but for the furure i think you've learned the lesson !

What you cann do: Put the channa in an seperate tank, or bucket. No filter is needed, cause you do waterchange every two days. Do NOT feed !. Water in the tank just so much the channas body is covered wit, so the fish can easily rech the surface for breathing. Add Cattapa leaves or oak leaves to the water, the humidic acids in there provide a healthy environment for the fish cause its a bad environment for fungus and bacteria. Keep the extra tank at a quiet and dark place.

AND SECURE THE LID PROBERLY !!!

Brucki gave you some very good advice. I'd just like to add that puffer fish are the worst possible tank mates available. Either the puffer fish will will nip the channas' fins and cause stress, or the channa may tear up the puffer and could die consuming the puffers toxins. On top of that, the puffers will be tropical fish, and your channa are not tropical.
 
Hi,channas are jumpers by nature,it could have happened in any different tank conditions,always keep your tank covered!
 
Sorry for the no-update. The fish died a couple of hours later. It's fins were in very bad condition because they dried out. Half of the length had gone dead. Also it seemed like it had banged its head somewhere... It might have survived if it was only out of the water but the 1,5m drop pretty much did it for the poor guy. Thanks for the advice anyways.

Also, I guess this had to happen at some point. These are the first predatory fish I keep, and the two other aquariums I have are open top/no lid. Never really thought it would happen. I've never forgot the lid open again since... :|
 
Sorry for your loss. I had a belhri before, i think my firsy one, jump out of the tank and found him a couple of hours later. He was covered in dust and hair and was pretty dry. I saw his eye move so I put him back in a tank and eventually made a slow recovery. Lesson learnt good luck on the remaining two. Got pics?
