HELP! WILL THIS WORK!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The outside container requires a dividing wall, where one side drains to the sump and the other maintains a constant water level to hold the siphon.

The specimen containers aren't very durable and crack easy when they're drilled (for the drain plumbing to the sump) and/or fashioned to support heavy weights (plumbing to sump and water).

The inside-the-tank box needs a weir notched into it to provide some "sifting" to prevent large material from clogging the U tube.

A 400gph powerhead may only have 80 to 100 gals of flow at the header (distance from sump to the top of the tank). Simply adding another pump will not greatly increase the flow (header and return pipe friction at increased flow). {Tie 2 birds together and, 'though they have 4 wings, they cannot fly}
Good idea but, why try to reinvent the wheel? You can find used overflows for as low as $5 on ebay.

that was priceless, Though if you sew a bird an a rat together you have a bird/rat that can fly an spread diseases all over the countryside. :ROFL:

You mean a sky-rat? It's been done, they call it a seagull :ROFL:

35.00 new at Aquatraders...
Contiuous syphon overflow

Currently on web-sale 29.00; but that is still not a DIY. But I might pick one up anyway :grinyes: looks like the water level will be lower than my desired level, but with a bit of DIYmanship.... hmmmm ....

Dude! That was a good one, I come from the beach in a commercial fishing town, need I comment further on sky rats? Seagulls can really piss off a person.

I hear it tastes like chicken.

So what if you are trying to comprehend building this system and you still are clueless as to what this well intended jibberish quite means...........keep on talking.........

I've been in this territory before. The best thing to do is to go on google and use key word search for overflow designs. I also have some diagrams put away for a DIY setup. Let me dig them up and I'll help you as best i can. Be aware though that Fosters and Smith @ live aquaria.com has a ready made unit for about $168.oo

Why thank you, kind Sir, I am interested and would appreciate it.

I'm just going to sign my checks over to the fish from now on...........
