Hi everyone. I need some help. I have a 180 gallon tank. The problem is the noise from the pump. I have a baby coming, and I've got to reduce the sound of my pump. I have a Gen EX pump running. It's running fine, pushing about 1000 gallon an hour but it was too noisy. So I decided to purchase a Lifeguard Quiet one pump, a 6000 model. It's suppose to do 1500 gallon. But it's not pushing nearly as much as my old Gen Ex. Any suggestions on how to reduce the sound in my pumps? Or any suggestions on any affordable quiet pumps that is a external pump for my wet dry for a 180 gallon that will run 1100-1500 gallons of water per hour.

My tank is still newly set up. I'm just getting started and still cycling right now. The tank will mainly be for Geophagus Altifons, Red Heads, and Red shoulder Severms. It will also have plants. Also, there will be many tetris swimming around as well. I love my tank because I can hide all my equipment and not expose anything.

Anyone who can help, please do. I'd really appreciate your input on how to reduce sound in my pumps or any suggestions.

I will have pictures of my tank up when it's done cycling and when I've got all the fishes in there.

Thanks.

sounds like you looked at gph without checking for feet of head on the new pump. for your fishes sake hook up the old one.

I have a 2month old daugher and have several noisy pumps she doesn't mind them. any noises your little one heard while in the womb will be comforting to her now. which means your little one will likely not notice the noisy pump anyways. and if you run it 24/7 your baby will be used to it.

run the old noisy pump and be happy.

if it's for freshwater. i' recommend the Poseidon PS4 extrnal pump. i'm using 1 right now for my 180g, can't even hear it running. you can search for more info online.

Would it be easier & cheaper to just sound-proof the cabinet? Spray inside the cabinet with some sound insulation foam...it cant hurt.

The Tetra pumps sold for ponds are extremely quiet. We run three of them on a pond, and you never know they're even on. They are quite large, so I'm not sure if they would fit in your sump, but they're usually cheaper, gph-wise, than the ones made for tanks. When we get our 180 salt up and running, we're going to use a Tetra pond pump on that. Just a suggestion!
