Help with activated carbon in filters please

I've always had carbon in my tank. I thought I had to have it but if not that would be great. I have a magnum 350 w/ bio wheels 3 powerheads for underground and an aquaclear for 125 gal. Would my tank still be ok with out carbon or does it matter if I have it in or out.
how big is your tank? it looks like its more than enough. still depending on the tank. bottom line is you need to have good cycled tank to have beneficial bacteria to clean up amonia and nitrite.
