amphilophus sagittae aka black devil. they live up to there name.

:iagree:I have a couple of the xanthic morph and i can tell tou they are every bit as aggressive as a labiatus.

Sagittae are mean as hell! Camphilophus has a few adults and his males is about 12". Is soo mean that he jumps out of the tank to bite you. I think he friggin sweet but keep an eye on him.

Simply mean.

its just the amph is afraid of the oscar hahaha... for now?

Yeah only for now. Until he gets slightly comfortable with his new surroundings, then everything will change. Hopefully he doesn't know or find out that he could be a brute.

yeah i know.... im probably going to upgrade to a 55 eventually. spent an ***laod of money on this one(im still a kid so money is short) and this is my first tank so im trying to have fun with it

Even a 55g will be way too small. If you can't afford the tanks then you should think about keeping smaller fish. You will have aggression problems, and that oscar won't stand a chance in the future. I'd take those back and get convicts, firemouths, or any other 6'' cichlid. Even for a 55g. I'd also stay away from feeder fish, because they bring parasites. Gold fish are fatty, and don't have any nutritional value.

cichlidfish is right! That 55 will only house one of those fish.

congratulations on the entrance to fishkeeping! And welcome to monster fish keepers.

The oscar, and red/black devils get rather large. The oscar might be able to live in a 55 by itself, but ideal is 60 - 70 gal for each fish if kept singly. If you would want to house them all together (which I DO NOT reccomend), you're going to need at least 120 gallons for them to live and thrive.

I would have to agree with bringing them back and getting convicts, firemouths, or some dwarf cichlids for the 30 gal. Surf around on the forum for more ideas, but that oscar will be out growing your 30 within a few months, if that. Mine were 11 inches within 8 months of buying them at 2 inches.

For reference.......I got this one at 2 inches, it's now around a foot long, and got that big in less than 8 months

well its been a month no problems between the amph or the oscar, just this new parrotfish not a blood parrot or king kong is causin problems

Dude if you ended up with a male he's going to kill your oscar as he grows. I've got a f1 pair and the male is probably the meanest fish I've ever kept. I've got a ton of fry right now but my male killed my female since then. Luckily I have 2 more. I almost had 2 pairs and a extra female but my male killed his brother too.

alright thanks, im just hoping he doesnt kill the damn fish.
if it wouldnt kill all the fish i own id get a red devil

the only common name I've ever heard a sagittae called is a black devil. From my experience they're a slightly smaller version of red devils but 50x meaner.

Theres a shot of the 10" male in my avatar<< if you want to see more PM me. Don't feed them feeders either, your fish will end up looking like the feeders at the pet store if you feed them to them. Yours is also a "xanthic" sagittae. Xanthic is just a color morph, yours is going to look just like a red devil anyways minus the big lips.
