Help with Anubias and Amazon Sword...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definitely keep some of the anubias roots out of the substrate. They will often die if you don't. I personally disagree with the "too much light" suggestion. 10W over a 20 long is not very strong at all. In fact, it's very weak. Your spectrum seems like it grows algae well. What brand is the light? I also believe that your light needs to be stronger because your plants are covered with algae, which tells me that a lot of the light they need is being blocked. You should clean the leaves or get an algae eater that will do so. What is your temperature? pH? Do you dose with aquarium fertilizers? Yellow leaves are a common symptom of an iron deficiency. Pale green leaves can often be fixed with fertilizers as well. Sometimes even epsom salt (found in nearly all of the ferilizer products) can alleviate this.

My temp is 84 c PH is 7.6. No dosing. My rubber plec won't eat algae off the leaves?

My rubber plec won't eat algae off the leaves?

Hello; So far I have tried a common plec, chinese algae eater, and the little ottocinclus for algae control by fish. The ottocinclus were the best and active but did not keep up with the algae. The others were no real help with algae control.

I find that a good population of ramshorn snails to be of some value with the algae.

I am currrently trying a probiotic in two planted tanks. I am using Rid-X. About every ten days to two weeks I dissolve a tablespoon of Rid-X in some warm water. After it sits for afew hours I filter it thru a coffee filter then pour the fitered liquid into the tanks. Only been at this a few weeks, so may be too early to tell much. There is a long thread on the subject on this forum.

I haven't kept a rubber lip but it looks like he isn't doing much. bristlenose work well. Your pH is a little high for swords but it could probably handle it if its other requirements are met. Definitely dose some fertilizer though! I personally like FlorinMulti by Brightwell Aquatics.

I have a bulldog pleco, close to rubbermouth if not the same; he does nothing, however; I have no algae, so he maybe doing his job ninja style when I'm not looking lol
