Hello. When I came across a good deal for a triangle tank with stand for over 500 gallons but when I did the math I got significantly less than 500. I just wanted somebody to double check to make sure I didn't mess up my math since I don't really have any experience with the triangle tank sizes. The dimensions are as follows, the front width is 72 inches, the height is 36 inches and from the middle to the point in the back is 30 inches, he also mentioned it was 38 inches from the back side to the front which I'm pretty sure doesn't matter in the size calculator but I'm not sure. Well that's basically all the info I have and I hope it's legible enough for somebody to help me out with the actual size

Is it a triangle pyramid or a triangle prism ? I use the calculator and it says 213 gallons but im confused with the measurements tho.

I assume it's a prism. I get 168 gallons but I'm thinking the measurements are incorrect since it results in a long 72" side (front) with the other two back sides creating a disproportionately narrow front-to-back shape. I'm not a geometrist btw, in case that isn't obvious here...

I'm having difficulty understanding the description, but usually the easiest way to calculate the volume of a triangle is to consider it to be one half of a rectangle. If there's a right angle in the back corner, just ignore the longest side (front?), multiply the two sides which make up the right angle and then divide the answer by 2. This will give you the area of the footprint. Multiply this by the height to get the total volume, then it's easy to calculate the gallonage from there.

If there is no right angle corner, you will need to take one of the measurements at right angle to the opposite side for this to work.

Confusing dimensions and description here. We really need a picture of this tank.

A triangle has 3 sides, so if this was a right triangle and the "front" is 72" that would make the 2 other sides about 50" so take a 50"x50"x36" tank at roughly 380 gallons and divide by two for a 190 gallon triangle tank. The 30" and 38" measurements have me baffled though so i dont think im understanding fully.

Could this be a pentagon corner tank, sorta like a triangle but but with a bumpout on the front like the outline of a cushion-cut diamond? I still struggle to make this shape make sense with those dimensions.

Whatever the case i think its significantly less than 500 gallons with those dimensions. Ive noticed a lot of private sellers on craigslist can be way way way off on their descriptions, perhaps out of ignorance or maybe just trying to scam someone. I once saw a 55g tank labeled 300 gallon and the guy wanted like $1500 for it lol. Like i said we need some more info and pictures hopefully.
