Your tank shouldn't have any amonia or nitrite in the tank. The ammonia and nitrite could be why your corals won't open up all the way. I would do some extra water changes. Whats your maintainance schedule like?

water tests everyother day
weekly small waterchange

Do you use RO/DI water to make your sw?

most of the time i buy pre mixed S/W ( not the kind in the boxes and what not ) or i get R/O water and mix my own

How long has your tank been setup?

year and a half

Do you have any powerheads for in tank circulation?

yea its a Hydor. flow rateis 600 gallons per hour

Do you test for phosphate?

no i do not i dont havet hat kit. where does phosphate come from?[/quote]

i dont understand why one coral is perfect but the others arent.

Your test kits shouldn't be showing ammonia and nitrite if your tank is a year and half old. Unless you have something that is decaying in the tank. Maybe try cutting back on your feeding schedule. Try feeding every other day. How old are the test kits? I would buy a new test kit to double check the results you are seeing. Also buy a kit that has phosphate. leather corals are really hardy, that is why your leather is open and the other corals are not.

brand new test kit.....
i am going to change out 5 gallons then re test

whats the eazyest way to get nitrate down? its still @ 2.5 ( ish )

BUMP

really dont want all my coral to die

nitrates a realllllly hard to get down mine was at .20 for sooo long i started using r/o water that i bought from walmart and mixin my own sw like you do and its gone down a bit but cant get it at 0 :(

also how did you introduce the corals to your tank?? may have been something to do with that...were they shipped or from the lps?

to introduce the coral i float the bag for awhile to get the temp the same

i put the corral in a bucket with the water from the store in it. i shipon wate into the bucket slowly ( put a knot in the tubeing so the water is littery dripping ) then when the bucket fills up let the coral sit in that and afer just a little i put the corral in the tank, mix some new water ( R/O with salt till i get my 1.024 and put the new water in )

your post of 2.5 looks like you might mean nitrite, not nitrate. Nitrite will fall when the ammonia falls, so if you have ammonia in your tank, your going to have nitrite. The end product of the cycle is nitrate, water changes will reduce all. I would continue to change 5 gallons every other day for a week and see what kind of impact that has on those readings. with these waterchanges you may see your corals start to come out more.

also, when you mix new water it needs to sit for 24 hourse before you add it into the tank, this allows it fully disolve and stabalize. This does not add ammonia into your tank, but the stress on fish and other living organisms will.
