hey guys.. i just recently bought a 3" brownbanded catshark... he's looking good so far, but the problem is he doesn't eat feeder fish... my feeder mollies are acclimaited to SW so i dont think they're dirty/sick... so far, he's eaten a nerite snail... how do you guys get your catsharks to eat fish? :D

Well first off, what size tank do you have. I hate to say it but depending on your "CatShark" which is probable a Brown Banded Bamboo you will need a 350gallon tank to keep it for life. But to stay on topic I dont recommend using freshwater feeder fish at all. If your shark is 3" which I highly doubt it is, it has just hatched. Give it a week becasue it will be full from the egg sack casing. If you had it for over a week, try cut up squid, shrimp, scallops. I would recommend using a feed stick to ensure the shark is able to find it. You should have probable done alot more research before this purchase so I am going to try and help you as much as possible. If you need more advice check out www.sharkraycentral.com

I have found in the past, with newly hatched sharks the best way to get them eating is ghost shrimp. Most of the time you wont see them eat but they do. Once they have started eating its much easier to get them to take fresh squid, scallops and shrimp. This is how I get all my sharks eating before they are shipped out. Hope it helps, let me know if you have anymore questions. A word of advice, switch their diet often, so many times sharks are lost due to vitamin deficiency. Hope this helped.

thanks for the info:D... how do i feed him cut up food?... drop it in the tank or place it near his mouth?

Your picture doesnt work? If its still not eating, well you may be out of luck. Its not rare for young sharks to die, some make it, some dont. Lets hope it starts eating, the hardest thing to do with a newly hatched pup is it get it to eat. Good luck.

What other fish do you have in the tank with it? Its possible if there is other fish, he might not have the chance. Make sure the food falls right in front of him where he quickly gets the smell. If you have to place it in front of it, hope he eats man.
