Did you actually see them eating fry? or just notice some are gone?
There is often a natural attrition percentage of fry that just drop dead, can be up to 50%.
Only the strongest survive (which is a good thing).
I have had spawns where only 20 out of hundreds make it.
And sometimes parents don't eat normally when raising fry.
To feed fry, I mix flake with tank water, and Artemis nauplii and shoot it into the schools, with a pipette or turkey baster..

As fry age, the larger will often eat their smaller brothers and sisters, so its a good idea to have a couple rearing tanks, to separate larger from smaller.

Quite normal for parents not to eat when with fry. Some do some don't ime.
I normally use a gravel cleaner and syphon half the fry if I want to raise some. I leave the other half with the parents and let them go through the motions.
