Hey all, I have a 150g 5ft tank and it has some dead spots I would like to solve. I currently have 6 red head geos, 5 silver dollars, 2 sripped cats and a butterfly pleco. I was thinking of adding a powerhead, 2x koralia evo 1050 gph, or 2 evo 1400. 1 on each side of the tank.

Can anyone suugest me what would be ideal for my tank? I'm concerned about my stock a they are all around 2" mark.

Ps: I was also thinking of getting an xp3 or 4 to help with filtration, maybe I can mix and match this in the mix since it has a spraybar? Or is it the fx5...

Did I miss it, what is your current filtration? how did you determine you have dead spots....?

you don't want to put your fish in a constant spin cycle.. main thing is have the water circulate to the filter's intake.. if it where me I'd go for a combo w/d sump, either DIY or OEM your choice..

I run approx 5000 l/h through my sump and I have a dual directional powerhead (similar to the koralia design) that is rated at 6000 l/h. I have few dead spots, if any, in my 5x2x2 (150g).

I have my canister intakes in the rear corners with 2 koralia 1050s in the center at the top and aimed to the front corners of my 125. Works great, a lot less poop on the sand and they fish seem to enjoy the current. my silver dollars and iporangensis are all under 3" and have no problems.

sorry, I am running just a 33g w/d sump only. I have a sand bottom and as I am watching the tank, I noticed the poop would flow around the tank then would set in 1 area of the tank. When my stripped cats would dart through that area lots of poop would float in the water and set back down.

well seeing as you only have a sump, you will want to get at least 2 canister filters (not the rena XP4's, XP3's are ok) and therefore you probably wont need any other circulation. just have the returns from the canisters at the deadspots and they should take care of it fine.

Why???
With the amount of water even a small sump can push (depending on pipe/pump size) you won't need canistersonly powerheads to eliminate dead spots. Mine is only 42 gallons and it isn't even half full with water. The circulation of the powerheads will push waste to the oulet if positioned right. It would be a waste of money adding any canisters on as long as your sump is flowing at a decent rate and you have sponge/floss in there to add mechanical filtration.

What gallons per hour are you running through the sump or pump size?
Do you have mechanical filtration in there?

I have a mag drive 1200, using 3/4 pvc. Drain is 1 1/4. I have 3 return pvc but i turned 1 off via valve. I also added 2 sponge filters (hydro 5) in the corners of the tank.

Even at 5ft head you are running 1120 gph (mag drive 12) according to the pump chart. That is more than enough filtration on a 5x2x2 as long as you have some mechanical media in the sump then you have covered all your filtration needs. TBH your sponge filters are pretty much redundant, giving you extra work and taking up space.
