Hi everyone.

Just wanted to ask for a little help. I'm new to the forum & been asking what type of fish might be suitable for my 20 gallon tank. Cichlid 2006 suggested dwarf snakeheads. Just wondered if i could get some info on them like living condtions, diet, max size and other important info.

CHEERS!

20L or 20H?

A 20L would be better but you probably couldnt get more then a pair, if that, in either tank of the common dwarfs (gachuas and rainbows). Also make sure every tiny little hole is covered. You dont want to wake up and find ten young fish mummified on the floor. :(

what are the diamensions of the tank ? . to be honest i would personally keep orientalis in that tank , they are the smallest snakeheads and have been bred in a number of diferant set-ups , they are a fantastic 1st snakehead. grow between 4-6"

if your interested i might be able to put you in toutch with a breeder who has some,

they have been bred in everything from bare tank to full biotope , personally i would set up at tropical temps so small heater would be needed, sand bottom and good use of bogwood and some hardy plants , you could even get the tropica plants that come on bogwood, they do not need floating cover ,but all snakeheads benifit from this , so maybee fill the tank to just 3/4 full and add a few water lettuce.
they eat just about anything from shrimp frozen foods to worms insects ect, they really are not fussy .
other really dwarf snakeheads include rainbow and sp assam , rainbows are the best looking but i would prefer a larger tank for them and sp.assam also they are harder to breed and are quite a shy fish that really reqs a biotope setting to get to breed

hope this helps , i think you would really enjoy orientalis

cheers col

Dimesions are 50L:40W:43H

Thanks for the help. Is there anyway i could get any pics and how many orientalis do you think can fit in there?

thats what is refered to as a 20g high , you can also get 20g in 61cm and 76cm

i would only start out with 4 in there , they will eventually find them selves a pair ,and pair up for life , then you would be just left with the two in the tank and any offspring until they where ready to either sell on or take to the pet store for credit, i would not try any other snakehead in that sized tank , even orientalis will be puching it to be honest but they are relitivly peacfull compaired to most ,so could work if the tank was set up correctly.

thanks for the help col. i'm new to all this so could you let me know what ill need to set up the tank to optimum conditions. CHEERS!

:( BAD NEWS. i was really interested in getting a couple of dwarf snakeheads but after showing some pics to my brother, who lives with me turns out he hates them. so unfortunately looks like i'm going to have to find another option.......

if anyone could help me choose i would be really grateful. i'm looking for something would fit in my 20 gallon tank. i would like something that won't grow too big, something colourful and something where i can have a fair amount of them in my tank (7-15).........if thats possible.

please let me know what you suggest. THANKS!

lol , what about leaf fish , or some of the rarer beta's , shell dwellers are real nice and would fit perfect in a 20g , i suppose it depends on what tyoe of fish you will be happy with , you need to decide if you want colour , preditory , peacefull , lots of small fish or one larger fish or breeding pair , lots of options to choose from .

or even better colous and predotory but fairy peacfull and really small = dwafr puffers , no-one can resist them. there great , depending on which type you would poss need to put a small amount of salt in , but you can get freshwater ones , iam shure the guys in the puffer section would have some ideas

cheers col
