Help with Dying Calote

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sorry about this! Those pictures of that poor little lizard killed me. Awful awful vendor. If they don't make it right you should shame them here imo.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. I did contact him about a picture of the dead lizard, but he said that wont be necessary, and that he will contact me as soon as the next order arrives. But the lizard will remain in the freezer until then. :p Too many bad experiences to just chuck away the evidence, lol.
The species is Calotes Bachae, a recently discovered species as of January 2013 - until then it was thought to be Calotes mystaceus, a similar looking species, but not the same. This is the second time that I've seen then up on the market (not that I don't expect to see a lot more in the future), so I figured I would have a go at it, and try for a future breeding pair...well at least I've got a female out of it. :p
I'll keep you guys updated if he does send a new male, and hopefully I'll have some nicer pictures of a healthy lizard! Beautiful species, just wish it would have gone smoother than this.

I do plan on revealing where I got the two from, just want to wait until the next order with the male though so he can at least have a little more dignity (hopefully) than he had with this first order. This is a new distributor to me, and therefore I have never ordered from here before.

I hope they make good on it for you. Stay after them.

Check out the Board of Inquiry forum on fauanaclassifieds.com
You can tell your story on there if you feel they are jerking you around, and have no intention of sending you a replacement. No half way decent vendor wants to see that. Hopefully it wont come to that though.

Sorry to hear about the lizard, good luck.

Figured this thread needed some closure.
After the first male arriving in terrible condition, the second male dying before it even had the chance to be shipped and the long waiting process of getting more in stock, I finally have my male! He arrived on Thursday, and in great condition; perfect weight, and a good size. He is currently being treated for mites, as I missed this step with the female.
The female is doing well after multiple mite treatments and warm soaks; she has been eating and drinking just fine for the past two weeks. The male doesn't have mites as bad as she did, but just a couple could obviously cause a big issue if gone untreated.
Hopefully things go well with these two, and I see some eggs one day!

Looking for your opinion here, or anyone's for that matter.
Does that female look like a Calotes bachae? I'm very confused with females also showing up with blue heads online and females without blue heads. Is there something that I'm missing? They come from the distributor as males and females, and the person I bought them from was surprised to see females with blue heads with eggs when he last went to pick more up AND others that look like mine in the same bunch.

"Blue Headed Female" according to the distributor right after they had been brought back from the importer. She is the one on top.

And here is a 'possible pair' of Calotes versicolor from another distributor. (you can see the similarity with my female and theirs)

I got screwed again, didn't I? Looks like I've got two different species.

EDIT: They're two different species! The two have been mixed in, being mistaken for females..........one month, and I still don't have my pair. I'm not enjoying this..so no closure on the thread just yet.
The long journey still goes on.

If you payed through paypal, tell him to get your order right, or you will file a claim.

He's got two gravid females that are ready to lay, and that is it for females - said he doesn't think they will make the trip. He said he will send one once they lay....I'm just so lost

I am so glad I read this! I was very close to placing an order for a pair of these from I believe the same vendor. I hope you can finally get your pair, they are beautiful animals.
