Help with feeding!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have all different size pellets and sticks, etc. they take em and spit them right out. I trued different types because i've heard some don't like the garlic for example. I'm gonna keep it up, and only offer NLS color enhancer especially toward my flowerhorns.

I'm not sure if this helps you, but IME fish that won't eat pellets learn faster when kept with fish that will.

Lol i understand that concept but I'm not gonna put my 7 inch jag in with some 1.5 inch jack dempseys or my 1.5 inch flowerhorn

I agree with the starving method but thought I might add a bit more to it.

I have found it better to feed what the fish like for a few days, making sure to stuff them up really good. After a few days of power feeding what they like, make sure to cut them off for 3 or 4 days before offering the pellet or whatever food you want them to eat.

I have found that just like humans, fish have a metabolism that can be adjusted. If you feed a fish large amounts of food for a while and starve them they will be much hungrier than if the fish only ate 3 small meals per week and suddenly stopped eating.

I have found this to work very well and only requires about a weeks time to get them on the pellet. The real challenge comes when you have a fish that doesn't eat anything :)

Interesting method

it took two weeks to get my jag onto NLS . Make sure when you throw them in you smash the water with the pellets too. they love this

Throwing a pellet at the water hard enough to make a sound has also worked for me on occasion, it seems to awaken some fishes natural feeding response. Especially insectivores and fruit eaters.
