hey im on a mission to get super clear water!
i need some help.

180g
eheim 2080
2 eheim 2026

50% water changes a week

nitrate never goes above 10ppm

after water change, water is pretty clear but still not at the clarity that i had on my smaller tanks in the past or that ive seen here on mfk

i added 400ml of pruigen (seachem website says 100ml for each 100g)
it did make the water clarity at tad better but after a week after the water change, the water is cloudy again (white cloudy).

which option would produce the most noticeable difference in water clarity?

1) adding a ac110 and all carbon
2) uv filter to one of the canister fitlers
3) diatom filter

thanks!

I would add a couple AC110s with pure mechanical. Use the foam that comes with it, and then finer filter pads on top. You could include carbon in one or both of these if you wanted, which would help extend the life of the purigen as well.

A UV won't do anything unless the cloudiness is from bacteria or algae, which doesn't seem to be the case (or are you implying with the white cloudy that you think its bacterial).

A diatom filter would work, but can only be used for short periods.

Milky water is an algae bloom.
Your doing something during your maintenance that is really getting your bacteria upset.
Once you find out what you are doing, you should be back to a clear tank.
It was clear at one time wasn`t it?
After saying that, I did have a tank that went milky for no reason I could find.
A UV, with separate pump( 9watt light/100gph pump)cleared the tank in 24 hours.
I pulled the unit off of the tank and have never had a problem since.

hey thanks for the info guys!
i wouldnt really say its very cloudy just not extremely clear, the crisp water look
no nitrite or ammonia in the tank

i have been able to get water very clear on my old 46g with carbon and a ac50
i was was thinking about adding the ac110 and carbon but im checking to see if a uv filter or diatom was better. i never used a uv filter or diatom filter and replacing the carbon every month in the ac110 might get costly =/

and if i get a ac110 i dont have enough room in the back of the tank right now so i will have to move the tank to get more room....ahhhhh thats gonna be a mission

I added a UV and have been extremely happy with the results.

On my 120g I use an AquaMedic 9w that is rated for 75-135g. It took 3 days to clear up but now it maintains my tank with such a freakishly clear look that the fish look like they are suspended in mid air. On my new 210g that I am still setting up I will add a 36w in line with an FX5.

So, just add a filter sock...:)

do you mean put media in the sock filter and then the sock filter in the canister?

if that's what it means...i dont want to put carbon in the canister filters becuase i will have to open the filter every month to change out the carbon...

thanks for the suggestion though!

does the uv run 24/7?
adding 36w is a lot of money...haha
although the ac110 at 13w and replacing carbon every month might end up being more =/
