Help with Gold P

Im getting a 5-6" Gold P for my wife in about a week. She's got a 55 shes going to put it in. Never delt with anything but RBPs. Got a few Q's.
-Is $30 a good price?
-Whats the right pH?
-What type of tank mate will last the longest? dont want a forever buddy for it, just something that will last a few weeks before beig food. Crawfish, crabs?
-Any experience and info i should know. It will be a single spec.

30 is a good price tankmates nearly always get killed maybe a snail,plec but he will probably get mauled not sure on ph i would guess between 6 and 7 would be fine

Try two RBP's , It worked for me once upon a time "No rely" for about two months !
30 is a good price .

Just got rid of a 6" Gold and he ate/killed everything I put in his tank. Even when he wasn't hungry he'd maim anything swimming. A plec lasted a litte while (24hrs) but I wasn't suprised when he ate him. I didn't think he'd eat my snail though but he did. I miss the mean gold bastard now.

Got the Gold spilo today. also found out its wild caught. He's now in a 55 with the botia modesta (who is the anti-pirahna ball)
