Four years ago this summer we bought some feeder goldfish for our kids. We have 8 of them in a 55 gallon tank and most of them are at least 4 inches long. We have this tank in our basement with no heater and most of the time the light is on. The problem is I have a couple of smaller tanks upstairs that I have somehow killed the fish in. :( My husband went downstairs last night and asked me what he #### I did to the fish down there. I haven't touched the fish down there so it must be something else.

The fish were all laying on the bottom of the tank and instead of being nice bright orange like normal, they have what looks to be broken blood vessels in their bodies and tails. I would like help on figuring out what is going on with them.

We hurried up and changed about 50% of the water and when I went down this morning to check on them they were all laying in the bottom of the tank again.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. :)

Are you adding water conditioner to your water before adding it to the tank???

The key word in your discretion is Feeder they are meant to live 3 to 5 minutes after you get them home four years was a good run it may be that their time is just up. If guppy sees this he may be able to help you identify the disease by the symptoms listed above but i have no clue sorry.

Good luck and happy fish keeping

Howdy,

1) did the fish in the smaller tanks upstairs die around the same time the goldfish got sick?

2) Please think hard: Did you change anything, touch anything, add anything before the goldfish got sick?

Thanks,

The fish upstairs got sick and died after I added some new fish. The ones downstairs haven't had anything added to their tank except for when I change the filters. Im not allowed to mess with the fish downstairs because those are my husbands. LOL They were fine one day and then the next they were all sitting on the bottom of the tank. Haven't changed kind of food or anything.

WOW.....breeding.....I never would have thought of that. Do they always change colors? Or do only certain sexes change color?
