Okay so I noticed very quickly the beginning of what seemed to be HITH. There were one pin sized "holes" on each of my flowerhorns in one of my tanks. I quickly removed my carbon filtration and began treating for Hex with API. Within a day I noticed a difference in the holes, it seemed like they began to scab over and peel. Which seemed like a good sign?
Might I add, neither ever lost their appetite.
My question arrises here, today I began to see a sort of erratic swimming by my male ZZ, sort of seems like twitching. He is not doing it constantly, but i have noticed it here and there over the course of the past 3 days. Is this okay??

any help with treating for hith would help as well. I am on my 2nd dose. I water change at least once a week 30-40%. They have never lost appetite or had any signs other then small craters on the head area. The male has a crater that looks almost like a cut on the front of his head and the female has a small pin hole on the head area.

what are your water perams running, do you test your water? if you can post pics that would be great.

if its HITH head only cure is pristine water. nitrates never over 10ppm. there are no meds for it.
just good pristine water.

Gh - 60ppm
Kh - 40 ppm
Nitrates - >30 ppm
3 days ago nitrates were at 10ppm
How can I lower the nitrates?? I just tested water and must've had a nitrate spike within the past 3 days??

only way to keep nitrates down is water changes. and watch what you feed. as in no left overs laying around. an feeding 5 days a week not 7. here Thursday and Saturday are no feed days. again keep the water pristine, I know i am harping on that, but that is the cure.

Awesome, I went to my LFS and my buddy there gave me a liquid to put in that reduces the chemicals like nitrates and clarifies water. The nitrate spike might also be because of the medication im using?

again, I do not suggest messing with any water chemistry, just do the water changes and water tests to know where your perams are running .

I wish there was a silver bullet, there just aint one.

Is there a reason why you're using carbon filtration? IMO, it should only be used to remove medication.

There is some evidence that suggests activated carbon being the cause of HITH and HLLE. Perhaps that's what happened to your FH.

I'd refrain from using it in the future because like I said, it's not necessary.

Every single filter you buy comes with activated carbon pads? Are you insane? You think they give you those activated carbon pads to use ONLY when you put medication?
