im goin to get a hujeta gar an i was wanting some info on them. his tankmates will be a 8 1/2 inch poly sen, 3 inch albino poly sen an a 3 inch poly sen.

they stay at the top (mostly), get like a foot long, and primarily eat live food...mine started to eat shrimp and talapia when i fed it to my other fish...

would it be possible to get it on freeze dried krill or freeze dried blood worms? or do i have to do guppies. i also have convicts so i could feed it fry too.

i have herd that they are difficult to get off live food, but mine just took it, just try to feed it the non-live food and it might take it and it might not...just don't starve it for more then like a day or so cause i don't think it is right others would say it is fine, but the way i see it is that if i don't eat for a few days it sucks and why do that to your pets ya know...

I've not heard they were hard to get off live. When i got my one he took dead pretty much straight away.

However, i would say that any fish that are only taking live benefit from a teacher fish. Hujeta are fairly gregarious with any top dwelling fish so it shouldn't be an issue to get them onto dead foods with enough other fish around who take dead food.

I had one on krill, just had to starve him for about a week. They like lots of cover, floating plants are great.

Mine would never take to dead foods.

I starved for a few weeks and even stuck my personal defense stun gun in the tank a few times as punishment for not eating what i wanted it to.

How big will they be when you get them-cause if they are under 5 inches may become an expensive meal for your Polys?
