Not sure, green chromoid?

I don't think so man, the body and mouth are all wrong for a Chromoid. This has me stumped, it came in with the SA/CA's as a Datnoid. But it almost looks like a friggen mangrove snapper to me.

Looks like a mangrove snapper, Lutjanus argentimaculatus.

That's what I said when it came in. But it's been I'm fresh water for at least 3 days now. I know they can live in brackish. But this is fresh. He came in, in fresh and was added to the fresh section. How long can they last in fresh water?

There are fresh water snappers in Australia. There are some here in Florida too where I live. Catch them all the time. They can tolerate freshwater and eventually move to salt.

The ones from Australia are pure freshwater. Wes brought them in prior.

I'm not sure but I'd guess by the 12inch mark be in brackish water.

Huh, I've never seen a freshwater snapper Brackish, yes but never straight up fresh. Interesting. What part of Florida do you live in?

Cool, upon further investigation, mangroves have been found in full fresh. Thriving, heh so my first reaction was right. Nice.

Live outside outside of Tampa. We get a lot of small salt fish in estuaries and streams but eventually go out to the ocean once bigger.

Get jacks, snapper, tarpon almost always little juveniles.

The rivers (not all) here drain to the bay and the salinity goes up as it drains out.

That's why I mentioned Wes cause he brought them in from Australia. Those were landlocked freshwater snapper. Will love forever in freshwater and thrive.

There are some sold here (local lfs) especially due to access and other lfs as freshwater. They aren't pure but will tolerate for while as juveniles. I've seen the same done with salt water barracudas. Never ends well.

So just got to figure out what's the likely hood it'll survive it's entire life in freshwater.

Also they are aggressive and once bigger will with the tankmates.
