A friend of mine was recently sold this fish as a "Pararchenoglanis Ngamensis" which when Ive searched pulls up catfish. Im a bit worried as to me it looks like a variant of tiger fish. (hope not hes got a community tank).

Please put my mind at ease and say its friendly. :nilly:

Looks like a pink tailed chalceus. They are plant eaters from south america. Friend has some about 12" long. Provide them with some cover cause they are kinda skittish. Try searching under chalceus, you will definately turn up more results then Pararchenoglanis Ngamensis! Hope this helps.

Yes - a Pink Tailed Chalceus - a peaceful fish (But they do squabble with each other) - very nervous, would appreciate cover. Eats anything - pellets or flakes.

The lfs REALLY gave you some bum info. Parauchenoglanis is the genus for wide-mouth catfish. Check out P. ngamensis, macrostoma, and guttatus and you'll see what I mean.

he is right its a pink tailed chalceus i have one about 6 or 7 inches. i enjoy having him in the tank he hangs out around the middle. but he does get very scared when i am cleaning the tank. i had 2 but one decided to take his life and jump out of the tank at night. don't know how he got out because its covered? anyhow he is a very good fish his color changes with moods.

LOL What store did you get him from?

A place in Pinxton, Wharf Aquatics. Theyre normally pretty good (but like a lot of places everythings the best theyve seen or rare or possible hybrid etc etc) , though I do always deal with only one of the lads there, my friend spoke to someone else. Thanks for the info, hell be relieved.

Doesn't look very Chalceus to me... too pointy a tail... ( correct me if I'm wrong...)
