HELP With MAP TURTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
from most of the ones i've seen, they spend alot of time in the water, but the still will need a large area to climb out of the water to bask. honestly, turtles require the most work and complex environments out of any reptiles of any reptile i've worked with, besides some of the large lizards

Hey so are map turtles mostly aquatic or land?
Im planning on getting a 4inch map turtle but i dont noe how to set up the tank.
thanks

I have a map and cooter . The cooter bask much more than the map but the map likes to hang out on floating vegetation with his head sticking out but he does bask just not as much.

So like others have said add a basking site and set up tank like you would for slider or any other semi-aquatic . Same care just they bask bit less but they do bask.

My map is much more nervous than the same age cooter .

These guys will need a place that is at least big enough for them to completely dry off. They also need lots of UVB lighting as well as UVB so special bulbs are needed.

you should try setting up a cage for hots (especially in FL where the cage has to be inspected.) :-)

Where I live venomous reptiles are banned so it totally slipped my mind, I was more referring to the more common reptiles, like beardies, basilisks, tegus etc..

My map turtle enjoys basking as much as my YBS, or any other baskers I've kept, but as said above they are a bit nervous so they often won't bask if there are people in the room. But they definitely need a basking spot, at 4" you could get away with the largest size turtle dock for awhile, but if it's female it will likely outgrow the dock in the end.
