i work for allstate im 21 years old and i want to move from a csr to a performance coach, its 2 steps up, ive never been a manager nor a supervisor. i just dont know if i have the skills for the position how could i know? i feel like i am a leader to my peers as i assist with calls. my manager always gives me the trouble calls. but i just dont know, what all you need to be a supervisor

If you don't know, we are not going to be able to tell you especially over a forum. My best thing to tell you is be confident, positive. 21 years is a long time and in sure if you do those two things, things will work out.
I have done well being promoted and it isnt just your immediate job skill. Mostly attention to detail and willingness to put in extra effort and problem solving is what they want in management. Be sure they have nothing negative to put on your review and hopefully you have a boss who recognizes your ability.

Well the day may come when another boss sees you picking up the slack and realizes you deserve a chance. One mistake lots of people make though is trying too hard to come up with "improvements". We are hiring right now and ive had atleast a dozen people tell me while applying what we can do better hoping their "initiative" will make them stand out. It doesnt. Just do your job to the best of your abilities and with a bit of luck you should be recognized

Make your desires known to your boss and your bosses boss. I believe all state branches are personally owned correct? Or are you in corporate? I am sure the owner of a branch would like to know they have someone looking to move up.
Another approach I have used is, tell your manager that you are looking to take on more and learn more is there any task that he could delegate to you so you could learn and free up time for him. It could be as simple as making the time scheduled for him. little by little take on more and more.

cmon lee, that's a bit unfair and an exaggeration.
I've seen that there are people from all walks of life on here that can bring something to the table. It wouldn't matter if you asked advise from here or a quilting forum or a computer graphics design forum. there's always gonna be something knowledgeable you can gain from a group of people.
ts, I've been promoted to supervisory position before as well as found someone to promote. in my experience, out of a group of grunts, you can obviously see a couple of people who have leadership potential. those are the ones who always come thru when you need. they take the initiative to answer questions, help out with extra things outside of their job duties, help others, teach others, cover other tasks when others are absent, always willing to do overtime, all while not complaining or whining............ things like that.
it doesn't seem that you'd be picked out of a group of 30 people since you haven't been there that long. but i'd say you just keep doing what you're doing. always be available, be dependable and volunteer or ask for extra responsibility. you'll get noticed and one day may get lucky
