Help with my crazy blue texas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To me somewhere between 12"-15" is already too big for a 150 (I considered the P-bass I had, too big at 12".
I always figure the largest cichlid in a tank needs a minimum 10 gallons per inch, so a 13" P-bass 5" tall and 3" wide = 21" so needs about over a 200 gallon tank, add a big cat and your looking at something around 300 gallons.

the tank i was looking into was a slightly different 65, 36X18X24, would that be suitable in your opinion? also for the 150 would it work out possibly adding a red tiger moto female along with a smaller species of datnoid? ex. datnoid polota

Eh 36" to me is going to look very cramped with a 12" carpintis. I'd consider a 48x18 about the bare minimum. And on the red tiger moto, it may work since she would be female, but I would still go for south American cichlids instead of centrals which may continue to bully your other fish. If you put another mean central in, it may very well end up being just like the carpintis. Most SA cichlids are more tolerant of living with each other.
And yes the 150 will eventually be too small for the shovelnose and Pbass, if you get something larger for them the 150 would be good for the texas and possibly some cichlids which were tough enough to live with it (though- no guarantees on tankmates, since you already know the carpintis is quite aggressive)

thank you both for the responses, ill take what you guys said into consideration for the texas and bass, maybe in the next month ill start looking for a more suitable tank for the bass and catfish, maybe if i give the texas the 150 i can find him a breeding female
