Help with my DOVII, swimming issue......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hopw your wife was not too attached to her fish...or you might develop some (swim)bladder issue ;)

No , she was not happy about it, but my cichlids come first and her little tetra etc are a firm second.

I have been trying to get a video of them doing it but they are so shy that I cant.

As soon as I am in the room they hide away, even when I feed them I need t hide somewhere that they cant see me to see if there eating properly.

No idea why 5" Dovii are so shy but when there bigger they tend to be very brash.

There tank upgrade should be here in 6 weeks so they better be ok after me shelling out alot of cash to have it built.

It sounds normal to me. If they are fine besides this slight angle when they swim I would not be to worried about it. Mine do something similar after there has been a spawn in the tank for a few weeks or more. The fry eat the slim coat and fins for weeks.......I think it starts to irritate the pair after a while and mine start to clamp up an look a little stressed. They will just sit at this angle you described. After a couple weeks they seem to be back to normal after the spawn grown some or they are removed. It sounds normal from what you have said.

Thanks, looking at the caudal there are some we nip marks on them, especially the male.

I have tried to remove the remaining fry but cant get to them. When I take all the decor out the male tries to jump out the tank.

He also does this bizarre thing. He goes vertical in the water lookin up at the lid, all his fins are up and looking great, then he charges at the lid. It splashes my floor so i have had to tape up all gaps in the lid to save me carpet.

I thought it was for food but I dont feed him from there, I use a gap at the back, and when I put food in at that time he doesnt eat it.

Strange fish.

Sure does, I think in the wild they will wait for insects and what not to hit the water surface for a snack. I have seen other parachromis doing this same thing.....they are roudy!

Its ruining my carpet lol

Have had to use clingfilm and ducktape to keep the lid closed and all gaps watertight. Makes it a pain to clean as I do small water changes every 2 days to keep the parameters perfect. (its a routine I always do) Had to put blankets down in front of the tank. He is a pain in the neck but is gonna be a stunner when he gets older.

He was always a lovely blue colour, but sometimes when he is displaying he flashes really obvious yellow as well.

There getting there upgrade VERY soon and that has a heavy duty lid and a larger gap between the top of the water and the lid so hopefully this does not contnue
