every time i buy pbass fry from my lfs they always catch ich or get fungus and they always die. Then they wouldnt eat just spitting out the cut up rosy reds.what is wrong?

why would you cut up rosy reds?

all you have to do is turn up your temp to like 87 and add some salt and be patient.

the rosy reds were too big for them to eat.

its called bloodworms man
they work great. and well ure water may be too hard. and well baby pbass are very sensitive to that.

i know i just sound like another member of the herd telling you the same stuff.. but i'll tell you what has worked for me.

keep the temp above 84 degrees.. 86-87 is ideal. add aquarium salt to kill the ich. i believe it's or 1 tblp to 5 gallons? it's kinda fuzzy these days, i just put a cup of salt in a 100 gallon tank.

feed them small food at first, and twice a day.. but don't feed them too much. if their bellies get bigger than they are you've fed them too much. one cube of bloodworms, or brine shrimp for every 2 fish. once or twice a day.. feeding them more often than that can cause growth spurts that can endanger their health. and also leaves extra food in the tank which will poison the tank and kill your fish.

power feeding fry to make them grow quicker is a death sentence.. please do not do this.

there is no compelling reason to feed live food unless you like watching animals kill other animals. frozen already dead food is safer, and it's my theory that not feeding live food may reduce the aggression level in the tank and keep your fish from killing each other or eating each other.

salt doesn't wear out and it doesn't evaporate. the only time you add salt is to replace what was taken out when you do water changes.

so if you have a 100 gallon tank and you do 25% water changes means you're changing 25 gallons. so you would add 1/4 cup of salt back in with your water change. because you put 1 whole cup in 100 gallons.

I know this might sound like a really dumb question. When everyone recomends salt to help with ick are they referring to marine salt from the pet store or table salt? Sorry if this sounds dumb always heard everyone say use salt and i assumed they meant marine salt but now I'm not so sure.

There should be aquarium salt for freshwater fish, API sells it in those yellow and blue cartons that look like milk cartons. I wouldn't use table salt as I have read that some of the additives and iodine can be quite harmful to your fish. But ya I believe its aquarium salt for freshwater so you don't get all the other stuff marine has.
