Help with new aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would look to Vulture cats ( Calophysus macropterus ) they are active, beautiful, won't get past 2 feet ( or likely to even hit that size) and they don't hate each others company
Just looked up the vulture and it says that they take chunks out of even larger fish.

Never had that experience, personally. they are rambunctious but otherwise benign. They WILL takes chunks out of dead fish but I’ve never seen them attack a living fish.

Hi everyone, just started here and am planning to build a 300 gallon plywood aquarium. Are there any catfish similar to the red-tail or tiger shovelnose that can go into this size tank? I've had both in a 75, not at the same time, when I was younger but had to give them up when to they got too big. Thanks for the help.
Lima Shovelnose catfish are great because they don't get as large as red-tail. You could try three of them. 1 male and 2 females.

Look up my post on Goonch, they are another large growing option and a good indication of what a vulture can do to new (living) tank mates if they feel the urge.

Dave, how do I look up your post? I put in goonch and a lot of different ones came up.

use the advance search option and put his username along with the search text goonch

A smaller version of the vulture cat is the bolt catfish (16") or even smaller than those 2 at 13" is the four-line pimelodus.

I did look up the goonch and Asian redtail, I really liked, but I think my 360 would be too small. I had the opportunity to raise a SA redtail, hand feeding but from what I hear any hemibagrus would take off my hand.

What about one of the striped brachyplatystoma cats? They seem to be smaller and look like the tsn.
