check the water params.

try small crickets, my baby silvers love them.

give him a couple days and some decor in the tank, maybe some floating plants. he should come around.

welcome to mfk
well jars are like that
they are pretty damn skittish
i got my jar at 5" and now he is 13" and still does this nonsense of hunger strikes but he comes around after a day or two when he is really hungry i guess
but as you say that your fish is new, all you gotta do is wait for sonme time for him to settle down (keep the lights off, and do not startle him) this could take more time though

and one more thing about jars
if you are planning to have tankmates then you have to have a few fish along with him else as they grow they get aggressive and you will not be abler to add any tankmates

i have 4 pretty decent size angel fishes. you think i should add them in there with my jar??

[is normal when juz put in new tank...might take 4-7 day to adapt d new environment...at 1st...u hav to keep d aquarium light on...make sure dun off it...2nd...add some tankmate like tinfoil barb or bala shark...everything will b fine soon...quote=dpham114;1559889;]hey everyone! im new to this place. i just got my jardini yesterday. its about 4-5 inches and its so damn scared of me, always jumpy around in the 60 gal tank that i have for it.

Try covering the sides of the tank with newspaper leaving the front expose only.:) May help to calm the fella abit.

the key here is: perfect water parameters, good diet, and patience...you only got him yesturday..give him time to adjust to the new environment and to you as well..he'll come around eventually.

you could try:

1) keeping the lights OFF
2) add fake floating plants and/or drift wood (so he can hide when necessary)
3) adding black water extract
4) aproach the tank with caution..(don't scare the you know what out of him!)

these things worked for me..
