Help with new fish disease

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fish did not make it, passed away this morning. It was looking better yesterday and I thought he was going to pull through, some of the lesion went away and swimming around but found dead this morning.

Could this be Columnaris? Regardless Columnaris or Dermatocystidium, what do you recommend I do now? I still have two fishes left in the QT tank. I don't see any lesions on them yet.

Should I continue with the medication treatment? How long to QT them, if they make it, because I know for sure they are not carrying whatever they might have.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Columnaris kills quickly and had sores on the body with fungus looking areas. Not really cysts. I’d stop the meds and watch the other fish for now. These kind of pathogens are already in the water/fish and come up when the immunity goes down. So could be fine now and later develop it.

Thanks, how long do you recommend to watch them before adding to the main tank? Do you think two weeks is safe enough?

I’d say 1 month.

Thank you, I will QT them for a month, another question, if I buy new fish with this one month time, do I add them to these fish or need a separate qt tank?
The newly purchased fish will have to be separated to avoid cross infection should something come up.
