Well arowana aren't my area of experience so I'll leave it to the arowana experts.
I was just wondering if he should be fine in the 55 for a couple of months.. And if angles and discus are good tank mates. I see the combo so often and its what I want to go for this time. Thank you again.I also think your arowana would be much better off in a larger tank. 220 is fine for awhile, but if you intend to keep the arowana long term and you havent upgraded yet why not shoot for something like a 8' long x3' wide tank? After all he could very well be 20" long two years from now.
Otherwise welcome back to the hobby.

Id say you got 5-6 months before hes too big for the 55. In a year he should be so big and fast that he might kill himself by smacking into the glass. I see this happen a lot to arowanas in undersized tanks. Be sure to keep a tight, weighted down, closed lid on the tank. I know youve said you kept arowanas before but if they feel cramped they will take flight ime.
Cant speak as to the angels+arowana. But im thinking that a large healthy aro will not only outcompete the angels for food, but beat them senseless as it thrashes about while eating as well. Ive seen angels get bullied in this manner by oscars before so i can only imagine a 4-5 lb. aro...
Thank you. So with the current stock. Im not overcrowded for five to six months you would say? I appreciate your feedback.
Hello; I get that you do not see it this way but I will chime in anyway. My take is with the current stock and by adding the arro the tank will be immediately overstocked to a degree.I was just wondering if he should be fine in the 55 for a couple of months.. What I'm planning on doing is, upgrading and probably 4 to 5 months. I just moved into my new house with my fiance and we're still getting settled in.Hello; I get that you do not see it this way but I will chime in anyway. This can be mitigated somewhat with large and frequent WC but my take is you will be walking a tight rope concerning tank conditions.
This thread reminds me of another a short time ago about the same topic. That being trying to keep an aro in a 55 gallon with a plan to upgrade in a few months. What is a puzzle is why get the fish first? To my thinking I would get the big tank up and running and then get the big fish. But over the years so many have gone the route you now plan. Some never get that big tank.
I also want to follow this topic is another reason I have posted. It will of interest to follow the progress over time.
Hello; Lots of filtration does not hurt but is essentially limited in some ways no matter how much you have. Once you have enough filtration to deal with mechanical needs and enough surface to house enough bb (beneficial bacteria) then more filtration is just more, not necessiarly better. The tank is full of yes, but considering the amount of filtration have on the aquarium and the 5-gallon daily water changes... In all honesty, do you not feel like the fish will be okay for a few months?
