Help with Nitrate in 240g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used Seachem Matrix Bio-Media, and Seachem Purigen Ultimate Filtration on FX6 but still the tank nitrate up within two day, I am thinking it might be my Frys getting bigger it **** a lot, I have 40-50 flowerhorn frys it size like 2-2.5"

I'm confused. You show that you have an API test kit, but say you are measuring nitrAtes to be 0.2. None of the API test kits I've seen can measure nitrAtes to those levels, jumping from 0 to 5.0. Also, a nitrAte level of 0.2 is not a problem in the slightest, even if you are trying to grow out fry.

Now, if you mean nitrItes then yes, 0.2 is a problem and it means your tank is not cycled yet. You have two options, keep doing daily water changes (maybe more often), or use a product like SeaChem Stability. Stability claims to "instantly" cycle your tank. I have used it in the past with great success, but I always check water parameters daily for quite a while to ensure - but again I have had great success using Stability.

You need to increase ceramic media (no hole in middle) if you want it to grow. You have to have aerobic (ammonia-nitrite and it need lots of O2). To reduce nitrate you need anaerobic which produces where there is almost no oxygen (deep inside ceramic media- no hole)

Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

Solid ceramic media (with no holes) is not going to provide access to aenarobic activities to reduce nitrate in your tank water.

As I state already...and as stated above...if the OP really means nitrATES, he has the cleanest tank ever... and none of what hes worried about is a problem...

If the OP means nitrITES, then ya thats a huge jump from .5 to 2 and the tank isn't cycled...

There is no advice to be given until we get clarification on which he is actually concerned about....

I don't see the test solution for Nitrate in your test kit so I am assuming you don't have one. You will need to purchase it to know if your tank is cycled.

Please post your test results for Ammonia also.

SORRY, MY BAD ON THAT ONE, IT WAS FROM .5 TO 1 THEN TO 2 WITH SECOND DAY

ok...this is the last time I'm posting on this one...

Are you SURE you are talking about nitrATES?
you dont need to worry about nitrATES that are that low, nor do they sell test kits to test that low.

If you mean nitrITES, then your tank is not cycled, theres nothing you can do besides small water changes until the tank is finished cycling.
