Help with Pacu and New Tank Syndrome

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you tell me how and I'll post them... this site isn't exactly easy to figure out. let me give this a shot... this was taken about two years ago, a few inches and pounds ago. once I get this tank straight, I'll take more.

yea,I can see it,I thought you wanted mto use a diffrent pic and didn't know how to... misunderstanding... very big fish, can't wait mto see it even bigger... are you planning on any tank mates with this MONSTER?

na, no tank mates... i do well to manage his waste load, don't want to add to it. and in the past, tank mates just seem to disappear. I'm fairly certain he ate a pleco years ago, not sure, never found evidence of the crime.

I posted new pics of Paccy in the new tank under General Aquaria Discussion... thread "Richmond, VA Pacu." Also have a important question there if anybody can help regarding low PH and crushed coral. Regardless, thanks to everyone for the help thus far.

if it wanted it could probibly make a small wake LOL... my 14 inch oscar makes HUGE splashes and it is like half your pacus size... I don't know if a pacu would jump out of the tank so get that lid quick... he could probibly break the top and jump out if it wanted though...

My 6" Severum splashed me last night n got me soaked. Couldn't imagine what that big boy would do

It ain't pretty Seppii, for the first three weeks of the new tank, I didn't even have glass tops. And it's a deep dimension 250, so it was a complete nightmare. He still gets me with a quick fling of the tail, but the glass tops help minimize it a bit.

if possible, stablize the ph by adding some things like limestone type rocks or crush coral and not let it drop any further. While low PH prevents ammonia damage, it also inhibits bacteria growth; but don't use any chemicals to artificially raise the PH though.

What is the PH of your water source? One thing you don't want to happen is through a water change, raise your PH drastically and suddenly you have toxic ammonia in the water.

I wanted to thank you Ecoli73, I added a small bag of crushed coral to the sump and for the first time, the PH is holding at 6.4 - before, after a water change, it would just bottom out after a few hours. I don't wanna raise it too much because Pacus like acidic water. But it's nice to know I have some kind of buffering going on. Thank you.
