I am planning to sell my oscar and get a brown knife, among other fish. The fish I want like ph from 6-7.5, but my tap water has a ph of 8, and my tank ph is 8.2. Is it worth using acid to reduce the ph? It would be inconvenient, and ive heard bad things about it. Would a large peice of driftwood help?
Help would be appreciated:)

Can you find out the PH the fish are in now..not the PH recommended in the books, but what they are actually in?
If they are really in the low PH and you want them to thrive, you have no choice.
Suppose, you could adjust your PH to their needs now and SLOWLY bring the PH up to your tap water over time.

Unless your breeding your fish, just shoot for a stable PH the fish with adjust...What is the PH from the LFS? What's your KH levels?

If your set on lowering the PH , driftwood does help, so does peat in your filter? Watch your water changes though for PH shock if your tap water is higher than your tank............

Thanks for the help. Ill get the stores ph as soon as I can.
