sounds like my mum throwing a fit because I had a "big" tank (30 gallon) and a senegal bichir. She hated the fact that I had one "big ugly brute of a fish" instead of what she wanted me to buy, which was a ton of little colorful fish. I bought a bunch of cheap colorful guppies and threw them in. For a week she was quiet. Then of course, the guppies were gone, so she complained again.
Most people like color and cuteness, monster keepers like, well, monsters.
sounds like my mom trying to get me to get rid of my oscar because he's "big and ugly", so to thank her for letting me get a 90g, i plan on stocking the 90 with a mix of bigger fish (severums) and a large group of tetras
Thats reality.Lots of folks want to see coloful fish.Keep your tank the way you like it.Set up another tank with flashy colorful fish.Goldfish, mbuna koi angels.Find something that appeals to her.
The beauty of the fish depends on who is looking at it. My bichir was just as pretty when I had her as I feel my betta now is. My husband says the bichir was ugly and my betta is girly.
To a fish of the opposite sex, it may be the most gorgeous thing in the world.
I used to have the same problem. I would bring guests over and they said all my fish looked gray. I had a silver aro, 4 bala sharks, a zebra angel and a clown knife.
I added a bunch of colorful fish like: a koi angel, a super red severum, an ornate bichir, peacock bass, green scat, and black angel. Out of all these fish, the red severum and green scat really stood out to my guests. My severum is 7" and he's a big bold red/orange color. If you don't want to add to many fish to what you've already got, you could just add 1 big colorful fish like a red severum and that's what your mom will pay most attention to.
my mom hates gray fish, they like red, like flowerhorn, especially parrot. I shown them peacock bass and they liked the red one the most. So i got two babies, and she said its ugly and gray, get more parrots.
