Help with plumbing a 240 gallon tank

I'd go a whole different direction.
I would use the two top/end holes as skimmers/drains feeding the external pump which supplies the Mech/Chem. filters and returns through the two bottom holes at each end to a RUGF.

Use the center bottom hole as a supply for your airstone(s).
If you choose to utilize the sump, drill and plumb it as a separate system .

Edit: Don't get so caught up in reusing the tank the way it is drilled that you create a problem in the future. Drilling acrylic is simple.

i had never heard of an RUGF. thats interesting....

I definitely would like to use the wet/dry filter and i am pretty much sold on that form of filtration although i have never used it compared to a canister filter, RUGF, etc.

now there is more to ponder/research....
