Hi guys, I've had my xp4 sitting for a while. I just cleaned it up and tried to set it up on my 144 tank but it's not working. I believe it wasn't working before which is why I got a new FX5..but I'd like to add it to my 144 to get more filtration.
The motor on the xp4 sounds like its trying to work/pump...but there is no output at all? Do i replace the top piece or what can I do to get it working again? Thanks for the help :headbang2

yea, the hoses are full of water. I primed it and filled the thing lots of water before pulling the clamp down and the water filled the canister as normal. However, when i plug the cord in, I hear the impeller trying to work, yet there is no output.

the motor part is abt 16 inches below water level

I actually have this XP4, and 2 other xp3s. Only one works out of the 3. The other xp3/xp4 have the same problem. Everything works normal, until I plug the cord and theres no output

is the canister chamber and hoses full of water? this is your prime that allows the canister to work.

can you hear the impeller working?

how far below your aquarium is the motor part of the XP4?

do you hear a grinding noise?
you may need to pull the impeller out and place it back in
this happens all the time to mine

Tried this several times :(

try tipping the canister forward when running it. it sounds like you might have air trapped in the canister or one of the hoses. tipping it foward tends to cause the trapped air to go upwards and out the discharge hose. also, check to make sure the impeller is seated properly in the motor housing.

if you have 3 rena's and only one works, it sounds like a setup issue. they are very user friendly.

we should be able to figure this out. and soon you may have 3 working renas!

Tried tipping it also, but nothing happened. It looks as if there are air bubbles in the out-take tube. I'd love to get these xp's working, but I'm not sure what the actual problem is. Added some pics, seems the water starts going up the out-take tube but never exits into the tank...kind of wierd? is this impeller problem or motor problem?

I just looked at the instruction manual and it says that the canister should be a minimum of 24" below the water level.

Just tried dumping canister and restarting again. Primed and the water was passing into the canister as normal, and exiting out the out-take tube. Finally when I plug in the cord, nothing happens again. I'm thinking its motor problem now. Does anyone know how much this cost to replace?
