Help with Rena XP4

when you plug in your filter dry (like you have the lid open in the pic) does the impeller spin?

I also agree that your canister may be too close to your aquarium.

24" is the minimum depth. this allows gravity to work in getting the filter going.

with a reduced depth, the motor has to work much harder. this could be the problem as well. can you lower the filter?

looks like the plug on the side of the motor head may be missing. Is the tube at the arrow plugged?

good eye! there is a little black plug there that stops air from getting in. without it, this may be why your having issues with trapped air.

this black plug?

Ya thats the plug. You can get a new motorat planetrena.com for 75 bucks. I would just get a new XP3 at Drs Foster and Smith for a $110 bucks. You'll have to do a search to find the thread with the special code to get that price.

yes. looks like you have it after all :)

Lol, I tried to plug the motor in dry, same as the first pic I took, and the impeller does not even move. So is it my impeller or motor?

lol , sucks motor is $75, theres some rather cheap canister filters on ebay for 100g for like $46 NIB. If I can't fix these cheaply, I'll get a diff brand obviously. 1-3 is terrible IMO.. unless im doing something wrong lol
