help with sex and id

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well i want to thank all for the input on my question. in reality it doesnt really matter to me what species it is. i like it so im going to keep it. i was just curious what it was so i would know what i have in my tank.
i will try this post again when he is bigger and hopefully will get an unanimous call on the species. but from what i have read on this forum and this thread on the differences between the two i am leaning towards a cyano but i guess time will tell..

It's people like sab_fan that make all these texas threads so confusing to some people. Common names are not correct names, hence why we have so many texas cichlid threads on here, every week. Stop your whining, I don't recall that being the topic of the op's thread.

.

 yes, of course; I'm the bad guy . . . sorry folks!!!

no matter what it is, its beautiful.

thanks for that . . . she was a great fish, but I had to trade her in to the LFS because she was becoming a bit too aggressive in the tank; I think she wanted to breed, and I didn't have any suitable companions

they were thrilled to get her back; she was sold the next day . . .

ya, because she has nice spots, i don't really think its a texas, more like carpintis. never seen an adult texas cichlid with big spots before.

his fish looks like 2" maybe, and saying that just because a juvenile lacks black on the dorsal fin, means it's a male, is false information.

I had this picture in a previous thread and everyone identified it as a female. A couple of people noted the black on the dorsal as the reason.

She is 4", can you identify the sex?

I was referring to the picture of the op's fish, since it is his thread.. Black on the dorsal does not show on juvenile fish, which is what he has. He commented, said thank you, and is done, as am I.
