just a follow up post to say his posture has become more and more normal over the last few days. almost totally normal now, just a slight roll of the tail to one side but no more twisted S shape.
so i guess thanks for all the advice and if anyone else has a similar problemwith their polypterus just give it 2 weeks or so to see if it begins to work itself out.
