Help with softshells

try live blood worms,............ when mine were babies that's what i had them on and they readily took frozen also. and when i got some size to them they ate market shrimp immediately.

i'm worried something unseen is wrong with them because they should be eating like pigs. if they're not used to you, they should at least eat when you're not there. depends on individual personality but two of mine ate from my hand as soon as they learned when it was feeding time

Your turts need a basking area, hidding places like logs and plants and your water level is to high. Softys are great swimers but lets not be dare devils, half of that is enough:D

I heat my tank it is about 79 degrees. I havent tried pellets yet since they arent even eating live food but I will try some. I have the tank where there is a slope in the bottom so they can choose to be in shallow or deeper water or n one at all and there are plenty of plants in there too for them to hide in. I have had them for 2.5 weeks now. And I have put some very small aquatic insects in there too and I cant tell if they have eaten them or not they are just to small to find easily.
2,5 weeks is to much time, if it was a aclimation thing it would already be surpassed. There is defenetly something wrong with your turts:( Is there any chance that you can get them to be seen by a vet?

There isnt any herp vet that is within 100 hundred miles of me sadly so Icant do tat either. But the weird thing about the turts is they look like they are obese they have bulges of skin stiking out around their shells and they are very alert. I am just lost I have never had a problem with softshells before this.

then perhaps they are eating when you arent around. water is about 79? are you just guessing? get a thermometer in there and check.. try upping the water temp a couple more degrees to 81-82. as a rule the water should be as deep as the turtle is wide so that if it flips over it can right itself easily. whats the basking spot at? what size tank are they in?

Delt with this many times, Take them out of there Tank. Separate them and feed them separately with a warm bowl from them to swim but not to much space.
After that get Little pellets.
They due eat live pray but there babys, You need to care for them as so.
Like give them room to just hang out at the top and relax Mine liked running around thr house and they had there own hiding spots when they got out of the cage
Just need to give them more comfort to their surroundings.

That will only increse their stress, get their fragile plastron skin srached, expose them to cold, dirt,pneumonia,...,etc:screwy: That is not a good advice and stop doing that to your turt if you want her to live a long healty life:grinno:

That is what I am hoping they are doing but I dont really know what it would be. I checked it today and the water is at 79.8 and I will increase the temp to 82 degrees when I get home. The basking spot is at 98. and they are in a 20 long.
