Alright guys, i haven't posted much but my 2 jag's have not bin eating much which is effecting their growth. I'm going to guess they are about 2.5 inches in length each:(. Iv had them for almost 5 months and they have only grown an inch. My other fish: Silver tip shark(catfish), Senegal bichir and Jack Dempsey have bin growing just fine, about an inch a month. they are now at 5-6 inches long each.I was thinking maybe the jags have not bin growing because they do not eat right. I try feeding them Hikari Cichlid gold but they will not eat. none of my fish will eat it. The dempsey lives African cichlid sinking pellets which i got for the shark and bichir.

Can any one please give me some tips on how 2 get them eating?
Maybe a new type of food, live food??

What exactly do you feed all of them? I feed my fish all a pretty varied diet and they are all growing quite well, with the exception of one of my Dempseys. She has not seemed to grow in months. I'm convinced she's stunted. Which could possibly be what's up with your Jags as well. My fish get TetraCOLOR as their staple, then once a week they get one of the following. Frozen brine shrimp with spirulina, frozen bloodworms, frozen peas (thawed and skinned) and the every so often ghost shrimp for some live food.

I feed them Cichlid flakes as well, but at the mean time out. For live food i will feed them some snails from my tropical fish tank once in a while, they seem to love them.

I agree with what is mentioned above - you should keep the diet of these types of fish varied: try flake foods, keep up on the pellets, and try some earthworms or crickets occasionally. You can try frozen foods also - most fish cannot refuse frozen bloodworms, but keep in mind the bloodworms should only be a few times a week feeding.

what size is the tank and how often do you do water changes? yeah jags should definitely be the fastest growing out of the fish that you have, is it possible they might have parasites? what color is their poo? also i wouldnt even bother with flakes as they aren't that nutritional, try to get them on a pellet as their staple diet, maybe the hikari pellets you have are too big? try soaking them in a cup of tank water to soften them up before feeding and maybe that will help

the tank is not to small for them. they are still small fish, not large fish. they have lots of space. And i shall be getting a 120-150 gallon costume tank soon.

In one sense it is too small for them, but in another it's not. Some people use smaller tanks for growing fish out. When you get your bigger tank, move them first and see what happens. Just get you some frozen foods, like the brine shrimp with spirulina and frozen bloodworms for a once each treat per week. Also try krill and some veggie flakes as supplements. That should help them grow. Good luck with it all though.
