HELP: With the eating habits!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah follow other advice given, and i would up it to at least 50% a week and see if that helps, what are your water parameters between changes? and try to watch your tank closer and see them poo because if they have parasites, the entire tank will need to be treated before any of the fish are moved to another tank, even when your not having problems its always a good idea to closely observe your fish at least once a week so you know where they all stand and can catch problems earlier right as they may arise

Shoot, I try and watch mine daily for changes. It could be several things, I know mine get in moods where they look at the food and just let it sink to the bottom. While other times they hoss everything up and beg for more. This though, does sound more like something is going on inside them that is causing this.

lol yeah im the same way but i think sometimes im a little over-diligent and then i notice too much and start to think things are wrong just because i saw one odd thing or that lol. but yeah sounds to me more like something internal,

OP, please give us your water parameters and let us know when they poo, how it looks and we will be able to give better advice

That sounds just like me, I tend to be overly paranoid and stress out easily so I can totally relate. I like to watch my fish quite a bit so I tend to notice alot of little things and sometimes get myself freaked out over nothing.

I started feeding them tetracichlid cichlid crisp and they have bin eating more and more active. I think it was just they where not eating enough for they did not get all of the vitamins and stuff they needed to grow. But thanks for the advice guys.

thats good that they are eating but still make sure to keep an eye out on their poo

Not sure if I missed something. I would feed them Hikari Cichlid Bio-gold + and frozen krill, shrimp and some other carnivores pellets. Don't know why most think it is a parasite. It is late and I scanned thorough the thread. If they are new....might just be nervous. The Bio gold has garlic which they love. Krill will spoil them. I feed mine krill twice a week with the pellet as the main diet. Trying to find another carnivores pellet for them.
They should be growing faster then what you described even in that size of tank. I would definite go with the 50% water changed though. That diet is not sufficient for the jags in my opinion.

tank is too small for them i can you that right now :/

I am new to this site, but I already get fed up with the standard "your tank is too small" answer. Two jags 2.5 inches long in a 55 gallon tank have plenty of space to grow. This reply does nothing to help answer the problem. There are cases where someones tank may be undersized, but not here. These posts seem to become a penis measuring contest of tank size -- that's a shame! I thought this would be a helpful forum.

people say that to make sure that the person knows the tank is too small for them at an ADULT SIZE. most people make comments like that because a lot of people that come on here new asking about problems just dont realize how big their fish actually get and think that their tank is adequate for life when its not. it has nothing to do with see who has the biggest tank at all, its just to ensure that the owner knows what the minimum tank size is for comfortably keeping their pets and them be happy and healthy, and yes tank size does factor into health because the smaller the tank the faster the water gets dirty and the more prone the fish are to getting sick. and while yes the tank is fine for now as a GROW OUT tank it is definitely not nearly large enough for these fish once grown and people were just making sure that the OP knows this

and NWatson, alot of us were thinking it was parasites because they aren't new, he has had them for several months and they have barely grown and this is odd for jags, but it could very well be that they were just low in the tank hierarchy and so just weren't getting enough food. but yeah thats why we just said for him to observe them closely for a while to make sure its just a food issue and not parasites
