So I bought my new tank (used) yesterday. all accessories included and stuff so it ended up being a good deal. However, It comes with 8x cichlids and a catfish included also. I'm not sure of many of the names of the chichlids or the catfish and neither was the seller. they range in size from 4-8 inch's .. He mentioned that name of the 8 inch one however I don't really remember. they are all in beautiful shape but cichlids aren't quite my favorite thing. There are a few of them that I like so I might end up keeping anywhere between 2-4 .. most likely the 2x medium white ones he has and then maybe one or two other medium one, The 4 or 5 bigger ones plus the catfish I will not be keeping So I am going to check a couple of lfs's to see who would want them but just wondering if they are worth anything or much (without yet knowing the exact species) or if I should just let one of the stores have them if they aren't worth much at all. any input would be great.

Pictures would help us identify them and give you an approximate value.

Going to need just a little more information than medium and big ones.

Yeah I figured this but I don't have the tank yet, Not picking it up until next wed. And I don't have much info nor can I get pics until then. I would assume none of them are really rare or anything. So I wasn't asking for an estimate. just if it's possible that any are worth a fair bit assuming none are super rare or anything.

slim chance you will get much money out of them. LFS typically gives half of what they sell them for and if they are common you wont be able to sell them for a high price on here. Good thing is that when you take a bunch in they do add up quick and can give you a good boost on your new collection. Good luck!

Get some pics. If you plan on just giving the fish away to a LFS, why don't you try to find some hobbiests in the area that would take them?

well i wasn't going to sell them online. my plan was to sell the to a LFS for whatever they'd give me .. or trade them for the fish that I do want at the moment. I posted so I could get an idea of what they are worth so I can tell if whoever is running the store is trying to rip me off. and I am gonig to e-mail the seller tomorrow and ask him to take a few pictures of them so i can post the pictures up. also i can decide which ones I do want to keep before I get it so I can bring the rest straight to the store. So I will post the pictures soon. thank you to you all. so far you've been alot of help and hopefully even mroe when the pictures come up

You've already got an overstocked 10g with an oscar and 2 IDs that you (against all advice) plan on moving into the 50g. You will not be able to keep some of the large cichlids in addition to your current stock list.

Agreed,

If you "sell" them to a store, you WILL get ripped off. They'll give you approximate wholesale value (usually around 30% of what the fish is worth-that is if they give you anything) and turn around and sell them for retail value-that's how stores work...
