i need to cycle my pond more since i added fish the ammonia spiked up to a deadly level.... so my ? is this

i have a wet dry that was used with a saltwater tank about 2yrs ago if not more... can i clean it out and re use it.. including the media.. if so how do i clean them real good.. with hot water:?
thanks in advance:thumbsup:

you could use bleech, but you just have to make sure you rinse it real good... Thats what Iuse all the time when I buy used equipment, and I"ve never had a problem.

water treatment might help alleviate the levels a little bit temporarly as well...

maybe if u take care of your tank and do some waterchanges here and there this wont happen, what a rookie. u suck at fish keeping. lol jk

i agree to use seachem first to lower the amonia. and with regards to the wet/dry i read a couple of weeks ago that vinegar is one safe way to clean hard crust stuck in your tank or wet/dry. bleach is really good in all aspect but as said, clean is very well. i would clean it at least 3x and then soak it with normal water for 1 day then use it with new water.:) one last thing about bleach.... because it's strong try to use a measuring cup on it's ratio so that you won't over bleach.

If your goal is to lower the ammonia fast then cleaning your salterwater wet/dry with bleach or hot water isn't going to be useful at all - new bacteria will have to colonize the filter from the pond and that's going to take a long time. What you want to do is use an already established filter that's been running on a freshwater setup. Or you could just take a bunch of filter media/bioballs from established filters and just dump them in the pond.

use seachem prime it detoxifies amonia and nitrite/nitrate i agree with the filter media from established filter also a good water change owuld be good too very good for the pond
