I went out to a ditch by my house to scoop up a few midas cichlids but instead i left with about 5 jewel cichlids ( with in two day period) ... With how amazing and attractive these fish are i took them home and put um in my very small pond on my porch( about a 100 gallons,im guessing, i like demensions of it though(5ft by 3 ft by 1ft deph) anyway my questions are ,1 will they live and get along in my pond with out killing each other? And 2 my main question how can you determine gender of them? Im guessing venting will be the way but wondering if any other way..Thanks!

Jewels are african so this belongs in the african forum...but maybe, just maybe, you should quit "blaz1n it" for a few and search for some answers for yourself.

Those are some very basic questions that can easily be answered by spending 30 seconds in google or by searching here on MFK.

From what I learned when we researched jewels they are pretty tough to sex. There is some inconsistent views on fin colouring but I have never found anything substantial. I have read they are aggressive but the people I know with them say they aren't particularly from their experience. When they spawn they are supposed to be more aggressive but, again, the people I have talked to say that they pick a small territory and protect it but aren't overly aggressive, they do protect their fry hardly from experience I have heard. Once you get a pair they are supposed to be like convicts, almost no stopping them. They are beautiful fish.

Thank you for the info.

Wow sorry posted in wrong section, and thanks for being a DICK

Foul language isnt tolerated here either so unless you feel like being reprimanded, you probably shouldnt do it.

I wasnt being like that anyways, so dont be so sensitive. It was a simple suggestion of help so that you may learn to help yourself instead of depending on others for such basic questions.

PM me if you would like for me to send you instructions on how to do so.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day
Teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime.

from experience female are larger than males. if they are adults the males will also develop asmall hump on their heads. they shouldnt kill each other although a pair might form and they will in turn become aggressive towards the others. the pairs color should intensify.

From what I understand it will be difficult to get them to pair a smaller male with a larger female. Just from what I have read and heard from others.

Their colour definitely intensifies when they are preparing to, or just completed spawning, it is incredible.
