help worms in my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it's Planeria I had them as well, as the rest stated over feeding and a husbandry issue's are the cause. If the case get's this bad I would up my tank up keep and feed less. What are you feeding those beast out there in Holland? I would cut back the amount and frequency. I know your tank is large so that be an issue as well? How are you cleaning the substrait?

sounds like the worms that you get due to alot of waist and left over food

thanks for the help guys, to be totally honest with you this tank is running now for 8 months, i did some water changes over time
but i never cleaned my gravel in my tank or my substrate in my sump, this has 2 reasons in my tank i never saw any dirt, and my tank is 1m high with my top so ill never reach the bottom.
in my sump i do see alot of dirt and white stuff on the surface
i feed shrimp mussel silversides anchovies, all are eggwhite rich but the white stuff in my tanks is gone due to a few water changes i did recently,
about the white worms now there not sticking to the glass there just floating i dont see anything on my fish only my smallest bass has a white thingy coming out of his side im worried about this, because my rtc and clown knife were very sick it seemed like they where covered in white not like fungus but a litlle
so i got the most of the fish out
all i have now in 635 gallon is 2 cichla 1 giraffe catfish 1 jardini 1 crenicichla 1jaguar, thanks for helping me guys

If possiable I would get an extra huge Syphon so your able to clean and really get down into the substrait. This is were most of the Planeria (worms, White things colonize) I have used other extrem measures like taking all the fish out and use boiling hot water to try and kill them, but to no evail. Truthfully all the advice given above is the best remedy. I agree with Junior about the Med's. I have heard taht copper works well, as I know your treating 635g it won't be easy to treat the whole tank but it is possiable to help iraddicate the problem. I would begin to remove the substrait immediatly. Look online and order a big enough syphon ASAP and start doing at least 50% water changes every three day's and 10% - 20% water changes to get the waste and un eaten food off the substrait. By doing this your going to be basicly starving the worms out. I usually vacume out my sump every three months if there is mass amount of waste build up there. If I were you I would definatly clean out the sump ASAP. Good luck bro but other then being unsightly there really no harm to your fish.

As for the one with the little thingy sticking out of it, can we get a picture of it?
This Cichla may need to be treated in a seperate tank. Hopefully you have/can get a hospital tank. But of course we need to see the issue to correctly diagnosis it.

GL gekkecichla/benito.

ok so i did a 40% water change just now, and i got a cure for the worms, so ill be putting that in now and in 3 days ill refresh and clean my sump and will see about it then, if my cichla with the white thingy gets worse ill take him to the doctor,, thanks guys

A BIT OCD HUH.......... is that tuff guy talk? IMO... but 50% of water changes every other 3rd day is a bit of temp shock... and alot of good biological going to waste! but i guess i got OCD...:D and 50%water changes all the time is not really healthy for your fish....but it seems great to TIM... so i guess the best way to go is with TIMS advise and copy it down... ( no offense braddah SAVAGE)... he seems to KNOW alot MORE,, eversince he says he got KELBERI'S!!! :nutkick:

Tuff guy talk, how is this tuff guy talk. I was just joking with you. What do you mean by I know a lot more since I say I got my kelberi. You know nothing of my fish keeping experience. I've been posting a bit more recently cuz I'm really hyped about my new fish.
Bottom line, I thought this was a good close community of cichla lover's that's why I like this forum so much. If I can't have a little joke with people or offer advice based on my experiences and research without being told I know sh*t (purely because I don't have as many rare cichla as some other's) then I am done with contributing to this forum. I'll just read from now on.
