My brother got a new oscar yesterday but it lays on its side, and i when i tried to get it out with a net it when crazy whats wrong?? There is no sign of any disease or anything... Could anybody help!:nilly:

It could be just scared. They sometimes lay on their side when they are. Have you checked your ph, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Did the body look like it was stiffin up when it would go to swim and then the fish kinda bogs and bounces of the bottom of the tank??????? If so its a nitrite or nitrate problem. I've had that happen to me.

No.... Never have because i dont know how...:screwy::WHOA:

Well i just checked it and it was swimming but when i when i got closer it stopped swimming....So it might just be scared? Its just laying in the corner...

Well if you don't have a freshwater master test kit which lets you check everything you need to check to keep fish nice and healthy you need to go out and buy one there around $30-35. And to the second post it sounds like its just scared but go out and get that test kit you really should have one. Good luck

ok thanks!

Yea, he's being an Oscar :-) They're known for that when they're new or moved to another tank. They'll lay flat on their side but if you sneak and watch them they'll get out and swim around. Definitely get a API Freshwater Master Test kit. It doesn't sound like the tank is cycled. You're going to have to change a ton of water until it cycles or you risk the fish's life.
Do a search (here or Google) for 'cycling a fish tank'.
