For some reason I can not keep my 75Gal HEX tank clear.

The stuff that I have tried.....

Changed the filtration from a Magnum 350 to a fluval 305

Added the Magnum back on the tank

Added another magnum 350 bringing filtration to 1 Fluval 305 and 2 Magnum 350's

Now I have a FX5 on it and the tank is still cloudy.



The setup in the canisters have been like this

Charcol

Middle
Biomax

Top
pot Scrubbies

Even though I am not going to use the tank I am giving it to a friend and I would like to help him out when he gets it
 
cloudy water usually means lack of biofiltration. how long has the tank cycled for? you need to give it time to build a good bacteria colony. what is in the tank? how do you clean the tank or the filters?
 
Well this time I took all the Biomax and scrubbies from the other filters and put them straight into the FX5 no washing or rinsing just drain the canisters and transfered them...

I used new charcol bags

I did a 1/4 tank change and it cleared up for a bit then when right back cloudy.


Oh and the fish in it are

2 10-11in Pacu
2 8-10in Red Devils
5 Pleco
1 lobster
1 Grasscutter cat
 
Just adding this also

I had the 1 Fluval 305 and 2 Magnum 350's on it for over 2 months and it never cleared up completely
The best it ever was is when I cleaned the whole tank out and did a 100% change/clean on everything.
That was almost clear for about a day.
 
the tank sounds severly overstocked to me
 
It is overstocked but I am almost done with my 150 then they can move into that. But there is an fx5 on it for the load.

i feed small amounts 2x a day
 
I had problems trying to get my 75 G tank crystal clear for three months - always slightly greenish brown (may have been from driftwood). I put Purigen in the canister Fluval FX5 and overnight the tank was as clear as drinking water!
