got a 6x2x2 tank theat has been drilled at the bottom for a sump ..... but i have been told there were weirs built into the tank ( no longer there ) can anyone tell me how this should have looked and worked

My guess is that they had built-in overflows. They are just boxes that extend from the bottom of the tank to the top in order to maintain the water level. They are generally notched at the top to skim the surface.
